Frequently Asked Questions
What does
it mean when you say that the top planks are "splined" together?
Splining
is the process by which two pieces of wood are joined together permanently. A groove
is cut into the edge of each piece of wood. The grooves are then
filled with glue and placed
together with a smaller piece of wood spanning the joint.
What does it mean when you say that the aprons
and legs are
"mortised and tinioned" together with a hardwood dowl-rod?
Mortise and tinion happens when two pieces of
wood are joined together by notching one and
inserting the other into the notch with glue.
What is a "dowl-rod"?
A dowl-rod is a round shaft of wood similar to an
arrow that is used to fasten wood joints together.
What does it mean when you say
that the tables are "distressed"?
A table that is distressed has
been purposely given a used appearance to reproduce the qualities
of an antique.
What do I do if the finish on my table is
damaged? (bumps, dings, water marks, etc.)
Most minor damage can easily be corrected
by applying a light coat of the original wax
to the affected area.
